"Featherweight" features a striking macaw parrot named Dakota that I was privileged to observe and photograph outdoors. The pastel medium is ideal for capturing his brilliant feathers in the natural sunlight, and this painting was pure joy to create. Dakota's owner allowed me to keep two of his feathers that he dropped during the time that I photographed him, and these little "gifts of nature" provided me with extra visual enjoyment, as well as aiding in the composition of the piece.
